Samantha Murdy
Researcher · Educator · Consultant · Hiker
Exploring human behaviour, decision-making, sustainability and social challenges across tourism, recreation and consumer contexts.
My career spans more than 15 years across Australia and the UK, bringing together research, education, academic leadership and external engagement. My work crosses marketing, tourism and outdoor recreation, with a particular interest in understanding how people behave, make decisions and respond to complex social and environmental challenges.
Alongside an international publication record, my experience includes leadership of undergraduate and postgraduate education, university governance and policy, research supervision and development, and collaborative research with industry, government and community partners. I am particularly interested in work that moves beyond academia, translating research into practical insights, informing decision-making and contributing to meaningful change.
Much of my current research is increasingly drawn to the outdoors, particularly multiday trails, hiker behaviour and safety, conservation and the complex questions of responsibility that emerge in outdoor recreation.
