Teaching & Education

My approach to education is grounded in the connection between theory and practice. I aim to create learning experiences that are engaging, applied and relevant, helping students understand not only academic concepts but how they can be used to address real-world problems. My teaching spans marketing, consumer behaviour, tourism, innovation and management, alongside research training and supervision.

Reflective practice and continuous improvement are central to my approach. I regularly use student feedback, evaluation data and reflection on my own teaching to refine curriculum, assessment and learning activities, with a particular interest in creating opportunities for active, experiential and research-led learning.

How I Approach Education

03 — Flexible & Engaging Learning

I have extensive experience in the design, development and delivery of both synchronous and asynchronous learning, across face-to-face, online and blended environments. I adapt learning activities and resources to the mode of delivery rather than simply transferring classroom teaching online, with an emphasis on maintaining interaction, accessibility and engagement. My approach combines structured learning resources with opportunities for discussion, collaboration, independent learning and application, recognising that students engage with learning in different ways and across increasingly flexible educational environments.

02 — Theory into Practice

I design learning experiences that connect academic theory with contemporary organisational and societal challenges. My teaching incorporates practical, interactive workshops, case studies and real-world problems, alongside field-based learning, service safaris and opportunities to engage with communities and organisations. These experiences encourage students to move beyond learning about concepts to exploring, applying and critically evaluating them in real-world settings.

01 — Reflective & Evidence-Led

I take a reflective and evidence-led approach to teaching, using student feedback, evaluation data, pedagogical research and reflection on my own practice to continually refine learning experiences. I view curriculum as something that should evolve in response to evidence, changing student needs and developments in both scholarship and professional practice. This approach informs the ongoing development of my teaching, assessment and curriculum design, with a focus on identifying what works, where students encounter challenges and how learning can be strengthened.

Education in Practice

My contribution to education extends across teaching, curriculum design, digital learning, research supervision, educational leadership and scholarship. Developed through roles across Australia and the UK, these interconnected areas reflect a broader commitment to creating high-quality learning experiences, supporting students and colleagues, and continually developing educational practice. Together, they demonstrate the breadth of my work as an educator — from the design and delivery of individual learning experiences through to program-level leadership and academic development.

Teaching Recognition and Student Feedback

My teaching has been recognised through multiple teaching award nominations and institutional commendations, including recognition for teaching performance exceeding Faculty benchmarks. These achievements complement student feedback and reflect a sustained commitment to high-quality teaching and continuous improvement across different teaching contexts.

Student feedback provides an important source of evidence for understanding how my teaching is experienced in practice. Across different institutions, programs and teaching contexts, qualitative feedback has consistently highlighted a number of recurring themes. The themes below provide a summary of these patterns across my teaching rather than representing individual students or cohorts.

Subject Knowledge & Expertise
Feedback consistently highlights strong subject knowledge and the ability to explain concepts confidently and connect them to contemporary examples and practice.

Engagement & Enthusiasm
Students frequently identify an engaging and enthusiastic teaching style, particularly valuing interactive delivery and opportunities to participate in discussion.

Theory–Practice Connection
Feedback reflects the value students place on practical examples, applied activities and the connection of theoretical concepts to professional and real-world contexts.

Support & Approachability
Students commonly highlight accessibility, responsiveness and a supportive approach to learning.

Clarity & Organisation
Feedback recognises clear explanations, structured delivery and guidance that supports students in navigating content and assessment.
