Leadership
My leadership experience spans academic, educational, research and institutional contexts across Australia and the UK. I have held leadership responsibilities ranging from the coordination of distributed academic teams and programs to school-level leadership, university governance, research ethics and institution-wide policy development. Across these roles, I have developed experience navigating complex academic environments, working collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders, and contributing to organisational and disciplinary priorities.
Leadership in Practice
The areas below highlight the breadth of my leadership experience across academic, institutional and disciplinary contexts.
School & Academic Leadership
My leadership experience includes senior academic responsibilities at school level, including serving as Acting Deputy Head of School. This role broadened my leadership experience beyond individual programs and portfolios, involving academic operations, staff support, decision-making and contribution to wider School priorities within a complex university environment.
University Governance & Service
I have contributed to university-level governance and institutional decision-making, including through University Senate, university committees and other representative roles. These experiences have provided opportunities to contribute beyond my immediate discipline and School, engaging with matters of university policy, academic governance, institutional priorities and the broader academic community.
Research Governance & Ethics
My leadership extends to research governance and integrity, including experience as an Ethics Convenor. This has involved supporting ethical research practice, contributing to the interpretation and application of research ethics requirements, and working with researchers and governance processes across different methodological and disciplinary contexts.
HDR Policy & Research Training Leadership
I have held significant leadership responsibility for the development and reform of Higher Degree by Research policy and research training frameworks, including serving as academic lead for a major review and redevelopment of the HDR policy suite. This work has involved reviewing complex regulatory and institutional requirements, identifying gaps and inconsistencies, consulting across stakeholder groups, and translating policy principles into coherent and practical frameworks for candidates, supervisors and the University.
My broader work in this area includes consideration of research training quality, candidate experience, supervision, governance and good practice, connecting policy development with my wider interests in researcher development and the HDR environment.

Program & Educational Leadership
I have held sustained leadership responsibilities across undergraduate, postgraduate and MBA education, including roles as Undergraduate Director, Postgraduate Director, Deputy Director of Teaching & Learning, and MBA Course Coordinator.
My experience also includes national leadership of teaching teams across multiple states and campuses, coordinating staff and delivery across different locations and teaching modes. Across these roles, I have contributed to program oversight, curriculum development, academic quality and the management of complex teaching delivery, while supporting colleagues to deliver consistent and high-quality student learning experiences.
Disciplinary & External Leadership
I contribute to leadership and service within the wider academic and professional community, including disciplinary roles across marketing, tourism and hospitality. This has included serving as Tourism Track Chair for ANZMAC and on the Scientific Committee for CAUTHE, alongside broader contributions to peer review, academic networks and collaborative activities.
Featured Leadership Project
Leading the Review and Redevelopment of an HDR Policy Suite
Higher Degree by Research policy operates across a complex environment of academic governance, regulatory requirements, candidate and supervisor needs, and institutional processes. A major review provided an opportunity to examine the HDR policy framework as a whole, rather than considering individual policies and procedures in isolation.
My Role
As Academic Lead, I led the academic review and redevelopment of the HDR policy suite, working across interconnected policies, procedures and supporting frameworks. The role required consideration of the complete HDR lifecycle and the different perspectives of candidates, supervisors, academic leaders and professional staff.
My Approach
I undertook a systematic review of existing provisions, identifying gaps, inconsistencies, duplication and opportunities for greater clarity and alignment. This included benchmarking against sector practice and good-practice frameworks, considering regulatory and governance requirements, and working collaboratively with stakeholders and subject-matter experts to translate complex requirements into coherent and usable policy.
Importantly, the work considered not only whether individual provisions were technically appropriate, but how the policy suite operated as an integrated framework for research training.
Leadership in Practice
The project required leadership across organisational and disciplinary boundaries, balancing different stakeholder perspectives while maintaining focus on academic quality, good governance and the practical implications of policy. It involved navigating complex and sometimes competing requirements, progressing interconnected pieces of work, and translating detailed analysis into recommendations and policy development.
Contribution
The work contributes to a more coherent, contemporary and accessible HDR policy framework, with greater alignment across the research training lifecycle and clearer expectations for candidates, supervisors and those responsible for HDR governance and administration.
